Oh, boy, Paul Horwat! You know, you guys were a couple years older than me, so I had to grow up a little to recognize him, later on, as a football star. A bona fide star.
But back to your baseball. That snack bar between the pool and the field -- my favorite place all summer. I'm thanking the memory of your dad. And was WSFS, the Western Savings Fund Society, up and running in your league when you were playing? That was my favorite team.
Where were you time-wise when the Levittown All-Stars were winning the Little League World Series, and we were all piling in the buses up to Williamsport?
I wondered what you were going to write next -- thanks for the *wonderful memories. Kath
Yes, Paul was a great athlete. My dad helped build the snack bar. I clearly remember WSFS as one of the teams, but apparently their sponsorship came later than this story’s time. I was out of Little by one year when the Levittown American League team won the World Series in 1960. I was an alternate member of the 1959 Levittown National All Stars. My brother Joe married Sharon Clark, who was the sister of Rollie, the second baseman on that World Champion team. Thanks for reading, Kathy.
Hi Russ, you really brought back memories, I made it at 9 also, played 4 years for PNB. You have an unbelievable memory. I do remember being very excited when I made it and I remember keener, almost unhitable.
Thanks for reading, Jay. It was a fun time. Nice to relive a little bit. Surprising how much coverage Little League got in the newspapers in those days.
Great story Russ. It brings back some fond memories. I also tried out that year. My first try out but I didn’t make the majors and spent a year in the minors playing games at John Fitch.
I also played with Paul Horwat in the Babe Ruth league. I didn’t recognize any other names except maybe the Stanley’s. I knew Tom and Roy Stanley. Was either on Food Fair? Anyway, great story.

Thank you, Jack. So cool to think we were standing on that same tryout field. I knew both Stanley’s but don’t think we were ever on the same team.
Nice story Russ.
